One Week Down

Well, it finally arrived. Week One of college football season is over. Was it everything you hoped it to be? We had near upsets, surprises - both good and bad, and drama that only college football can provide. In Austin we got to see two great new players. D.J. Monroe electrified the stadium every time he touched the ball. Punt returns should be a lot of fun to watch this season. And the future of Longhorn football, Garrett Gilbert, looked every bit the promising-star-to-be that we've heard about. Sure he's got a lot to learn, but that's what this year is all about for him. The Big XII generally had a really good day. Baylor and Oklahoma State had statement wins that only improve Texas's all-important strength of schedule. Now if only we could get Sam Bradford patched up before October. Shotgun30 will have a contingent in Wyoming to support the Horns on Saturday. Look for the pictures at the beginning of next week. And don't forget to RSVP to the Texas Tech tailgate.

And the Hype Begins

Well, the players have barely unpacked their flip-flops from summer vacation, not one game has been played and the hype has already begun. SI’s Stewart Mandel says Texas fans should mark January 7th, 2010 on their calendars, buy the plane tickets and book hotel reservations. It may be a little soon to hit up Expedia, this is what happens when your team is ranked number 2 preseason. But, we’re Texas, as the slogan goes. We’ve been here before and we’ll be here again. But it sure is nice. Click here for full story.

Texas No. 2 in Statesman Preseason Poll

Texas starts out yet another season with high expectations. It’s set for a primetime show down with Texas Tech unusually early in the season to kick off Big XII play. In case you missed it, the Tech game was moved up 5 weeks to September 19, for ABC’s purposes. And once more the Red River Rivalry has national implications. With two preseason top five teams, two Heisman candidates and all the usual bragging rights on the line, the game is set up to be one more thriller in a series that rarely disappoints. And those are just two of the games Texas has on the schedule. So get set, Shotgun30 fans, send in your dues, fire up the turkey fryers, and line up the cans of Lone Star. Football season is yet again upon us.

FROM THE STATESMAN:

SHOTGUN 30 IS IN THE MIX

According to David Reimherr, Shotgun 30 is "in the mix."

David tells Shotgun30.com that "Keith Dudley (Blair’s brother and Brian Witten”bomb”’s brother in law) has hooked us up with a Bacardi stand at our first two tailgates and they will be set up 3 hours before each kickoff.  Just wanted to let everyone know and we look forward to seeing you all there."

Get ready to have your mind blown in 2008 - because tailgating will never be the same with Shotgun 30 sipping on Hook'em-ojitos.
